Plumeria Flower Plant Description

Plumeria, commonly known as Frangipani, is a tropical flowering plant celebrated for its sweet fragrance and vibrant, waxy blooms. Belonging to the Apocynaceae family, plumerias are native to Central America, the Caribbean, and northern South America, though they are now widely cultivated in warm climates around the world.

Plumeria plants typically grow as small trees or large shrubs, reaching 6–20 feet in height depending on the variety and growing conditions. Their branches are thick, succulent, and often knobby, producing clusters of large, leathery, oval-shaped leaves that drop during the plant’s dormant season.

The flowers—usually blooming from spring through early fall—come in stunning shades of white, yellow, pink, red, and multi-colored combinations. Each bloom has five velvety petals arranged in a distinctive spiral shape. Their fragrance is strongest at night to attract pollinators such as moths, and the scent can vary from sweet floral to citrusy or spicy, depending on the cultivar.

Plumerias thrive in full sun, warm temperatures, and well-drained soil. They are drought-tolerant once established and can be grown in containers, making them popular for tropical gardens, patios, and landscapes.
